Building a Business on Understanding

I didn’t start this company because I wanted to build another consultancy. I started it because I got tired of watching businesses get sold solutions before anyone had actually understood the problem.

Over the course of my career, I’ve watched organisations pour time, money and effort into technology, systems and transformation programmes, only to realise later they’d been solving the wrong problem the whole time. That experience stuck with me. It’s shaped how I think ever since: better decisions start with better understanding.

02

My Philosophy

Technology isn’t the starting point. People are.

Every business has its own history, its own challenges, its own way of doing things. Before I’d ever recommend a solution, I want to understand the organisation, the people running it, and what’s actually causing the problems they’re facing.

That’s why our approach always starts the same way: listen, understand, diagnose, recommend, deliver. Not the other way round.

And if the right answer is something we don’t provide ourselves, we’ll say so and point you toward it anyway. We’d rather be trusted for years than useful for a moment.

03

My Background

My career has taken me through commercial operations, finance, supplier management, payroll leadership, technology strategy and business transformation, mostly inside complex, multi-site organisations. I have worked across FMCG environments and helped design internal payroll platforms, giving me practical experience of how finance, people, operations and technology intersect in the real world.

I never specialised in just one discipline. Instead, I built a broad understanding of how businesses actually function as interconnected systems.

Finance, operations, technology, commercial strategy and people do not sit in isolation. Move one and the others shift too, whether you meant them to or not. Understanding those connections is what makes better decisions possible.

04

Why This Company Exists

This business wasn’t built to sell technology. It was built to help organisations make better decisions.

Sometimes technology is the answer. Sometimes it isn’t. Our job is to find the right solution, not the one that benefits us most.

I believe businesses deserve advice that’s independent, thoughtful, and grounded in a real understanding of what they’re trying to achieve. That’s the bar we’ve held ourselves to since day one.

05

Looking Ahead

We were never trying to build the biggest consultancy. We’re trying to build one of the most trusted, the kind of company leaders come to when they need clarity, honest advice, and confidence in the decision ahead of them.

If, years from now, clients describe us as the people who actually understood their business before trying to change it, we’ll have done exactly what we set out to do.

06

A Personal Note

Outside of work, I’ve always been drawn to figuring out how things work. As a kid I lost hours building Lego, watching something come together piece by piece from nothing, read about astronomy, and got interested in machinery, not for the objects themselves but for what they revealed about how the world fits together.

That curiosity never left. These days, instead of bricks or stars, I spend my time understanding organisations. Different systems, same curiosity. I still believe the best solutions start with seeing the whole picture.

Founder-led from start to finish

Every engagement is led directly, from the first discussion through to the final recommendation.

Aitiom is intentionally independent, ensuring advice remains grounded in what is right for the business rather than what needs to be sold.
